• 美本早申来了,疫情下该如何准备文书才能脱颖而出?一定要知道这些!

    加州大学网申系统和Common Applicaiton系统即将在8月1日开放,打算申请美本2021Fall的小伙伴们,你们的文书准备好了吗?





    在美本申请的过程中,文书是绕不过的一道坎,尤其对于当季申请者来说,更是要做好充分准备,把文书作为重中之重。毕竟现在来补GPA,补课外活动都不现实,唯一能做的就是通过文书,呈现给招生官更优秀的自己。


    而在准备文书的过程中,文书写作能力和时间管理能力都是不可忽视的关键因素。


    一旦文书写作拖了后腿或者时间安排不合理,就有可能会让你和梦校失之交臂!!


    那么,在准备文书时,同学们该如何准备文书写作和安排时间呢?

    选择合适的观点,这个观点必须要你认可并赞同。要想说服别人,首先自己要有充分的自信,如果自己对所选择的观点都有疑虑,那你很大概率是无法成功说服别人的。






    合理使用逻辑。Persuasive Essay的写作,强调清晰性,具体是指在行文的微观逻辑上,做到简单易懂、毫不费力。这听起来很简单,但实际并不容易实现。


    很多人写作都是从自身出发,以自我为中心,这与Persuasive Essay写作的要求是不同的。实际上,在Persuasive Essay写作中,所有的东西都应该是最简单、最清晰的。


    很多学生在写作时甚至表达不清楚自己的观点,只是把一些耳熟能详的概念转化为英文,这样表达出的概念会让考官不知所云。在写作时,想象这篇文章的读者是三岁的孩子,你需要做的,就是把一件事清楚地解释给他听。


    摆出合理的论据,支撑你的观点,如果论据不充足,那文章就会显得空泛,论点也没有说服力。尽可能找到合理、客观、可靠的论据,所以大家最好通过摆事实,特别是公认的事实来说理,更容易被大家所接受,也可以尝试从不同的角度来举出更多的论据。


    利用反论点进一步加强观点。虽然Persuasive Essay中不是一定要包含counter-arguments,但是通过counter-argue可以使文章更有力度。


    在进行counter-argue时,可以试想有一个不同意你观点的人,最容易提出什么样的论据来反驳你或者有哪些理由可能会推翻你的论文,然后你再根据这个抗辩。


    总结全文要点。在写作结尾用精炼的语言重申文章观点,也许你在开头已经表过态了,那结尾就再来一遍,注意变换一下表达方式,这样才能给读者里留下深刻印象。

    美国大学的整体申请截止的时间,可以大概分成3个不同时段:


    • 第1个时段是俗称的“早申”时间段,大部分学校在10月底和11月初左右截止。同样一所学校,在早申阶段提交申请,也会更早拿到录取结果。早申的学校,一般在11月底开始陆续发放结果,大部分在12月中旬左右发放结果。


    • 跟早申对应的,是“常规”申请的截止时间,集中在1月左右,大部分在1月1日到1月15日之间。在常规申请阶段提交的学校,一般在3-4月发放结果。


    • 还有一小部分大学,只设置一轮截止时间,但可能卡在其它学校的早申和常规截止之间。比如,加州大学各个分校在11月30日截止,华盛顿大学11月15日截止。





    在申请美国大学的留学党里,参与早申的学生达到40%以上。对于冲刺藤校及TOP30的学生来说,是一定需要用好早申的。同等综合软硬件情况下,早申拿录取的概率比常规申请可能要高出2倍还要多。同时,从2018年开始,每年有过半的留学美国的学生,会申请加州大学系列至少1所分校。所以上述申请节奏适用于大部分中国学生。


    总体上,文书工作量大,是申请美国大学的一个很重要的特点。对于申请美国大学的同学来说,申请文书的准备优先级大概是:


    • CA通用大文书或加州大学系统的申请文书最早准备。

    • 其次是早申学校的小文书。

    • 然后是剩余其它学校的小文书。 


    美国大学的申请过程中,可能会有招生官面试、校友面试、或第三方面试,但总体上面试应对的难度是低于文书的。通过文书的撰写,理清个人活动背景的同学,一般不需要为面试准备投入过多精力。
